About Scott

Born in 1977 in the San Francisco Bay Area, Scott Johnson's artistic practice is deeply rooted in the local landscapes of his native California. Working exclusively in oil, he strives to capture the ephemeral effects of light and atmosphere in a style characterized as impressionistic realism.

Scott is a dedicated plein air artist, working directly from nature to capture the authentic values and colors that can only be observed in person. While his portfolio includes iconic California locations, he draws significant inspiration from less-traveled vistas. Art has been a lifelong companion; however, it was later in life that Scott committed to painting as a daily endeavor.

He refined his practice through studies with some of the world's foremost contemporary landscape and plein air artists, including Joe Paquet and Marc Dalessio. Scott draws historical inspiration from masters such as John Singer Sargent, Isaac Levitan, Joaquín Sorolla, and Ivan Shishkin.
